Hi everyone it is Sensei Austin, those of you who have seen me lugging all my motorcycle gear around, may have figured out by now that I am a huge car and motorcycle nut and recently I got a job selling Smart Cars at the new San Diego Smart Center. Now I am sure you are asking why some like me, who loves high-performance, exotic cars and motorcycles, who races cars, and who travels for the sole purpose of attending some of the fastest racing events in the world would want to sell Smart Cars. Well the truth is they are actually amazing cars! Believe it or not, there are times when even I don't feel like putting on all my gear and riding my motorcycle just to go get some lunch. Sometimes I just want to get from Point A to Point B in a relaxed, hassle-free manner, but at the same time I also want to get there cheap and easy like I can on my motorcycle, and this is where the Smart Car comes in. When I was in studying in Switzerland I had a motorcycle because there was no way I was going to miss the opportunity to ride all the great roads over there; especially through the Alps. But honestly, traveling through Europe alone is not the most fun, nor is a motorcycle convenient when you want to stay anywhere for an extended period of time, you want to buy any substantial souvenirs, or the weather suddenly changes. I have lived in San Diego my entire life and was shocked to discover that there are actually places in the world that have things called seasons where the weather get cold and water falls from the sky and sometime that water is even frozen. So when I wanted to go some where without freezing or when I wanted to get away for a weekend or a vacation with friends we would rent three or four Smart Cars and just drive everywhere in what I imagine was a somewhat comical Smart Car convoy. And when I say everywhere I mean everywhere. I was living in southern Switzerland and we went to the Ferrari Factory in Italy, the BMW Museum in Munich, the International Car Show in Geneva (notice a pattern here?), King Ludwig's castles on the Austrian-German border, we went everywhere. And no matter where we where the Smart Car was always a blast. From tiny Swiss towns in the Alps, to the congestion of downtown Milan, Italy, to the Autobahns of Germany, the Smart Car always performed brilliantly and no one ever complained about feeling cramped, not having enough space for their stuff, and we never had an problems parking because it is still small enough that you can park it perpendicular to the curb. Also the Smart Car got great gas mileage so we were able to save a whole bunch of money that we could spend on other more important things, and by more important things I mean scientific studies into whether the Swiss or the Belgians made better chocolate and which restaurant in Italy made the best pizza. Anyways that is why I decided to start selling Smart Cars, I believe they are the perfect car a majority of the driving most people need to do. They are comfortable, maneuverable, adaptable, economical, environmentally friendly, fun, and real attention getters, guaranteed to start a conversation and attract a crowd where ever you are. So everyone should definitely email me at afitch@penskeautomotive or call me at Smart Center San Diego at (858) 430-2301, or just stop by anytime Saturday to Wednesday and I will be happy to answer anymore questions, show you around and let you take a test drive. Smart Center San Diego is located inside the San Diego Mercedes-Benz dealership at 4750 Kearny Mesa Road, San Diego, CA 92111. And please spread the word. Below is some more specific information about the Smart Cars. Thanks a lot. - Sensei Austin

Congratulations on the new job Sensei Austin! Does the smart car come with surf racks?
The cheapest option is to use any softmount rack system. But Yakima also makes a roof rack system that can be configured differently for use with a luggage holder, skis, snowboards, and surfboards, and then there is a rear bumper rack that can be used to also carry bicycles, skis, and snowboards. If you use a short board it will actually fit inside the car because the passenger's seat folds down flat and then the tailgate is in two parts so you just leave the window piece open.
